Do you have an Android phone and need to change or delete the main Gmail account linked to the phonoe? There are several options you can take but following the steps below will reset the Google settings without having to perform a hard-reset of the device and losing all data or getting locked out the phone.

Instructions

    Following the steps below is an alternative to performing a hard-reset of your Android phone. When you perform a hard-reset on Androids if takes your cell phone back to factory settings and all contacts and third-party applications will be lost.

    Press Menu option to Access Settings option

    Once you are in the Settings option Go to Applications

    Once in the Application option Select Manage Applications

    You want to select the Clear Data option under this applications. Make sure each application shows the data has been cleared. 

    1. Gmail
    2. Gmail Storage
    3. Goggle Apps
    4. Google Talk 
    5. Google Talk Services
    6. IM

Tips & Warnings

  • You need to make sure all six of these application the data count has been reset to "0"K
  • The phone should allow you to reset and tie in a new Gmail account to the phone.
  • If the above options do not work then you will need to do a factory restore. Note when resetting the phone back to factory settings you will lose all contacts and third-party applications. Make sure you save the data prior to a hard-reset. Save to a SD card.
